Are you passionate about what you do?

Lawyering

“Are you passionate about what you do?” I was asked.

Honestly? It’s one of those questions I have always struggled to answer.

A million thoughts ran through my mind.

Who can be passionate about what they do 24/7?

Define “passionate”.

Is it the kind that lights you up every morning?

Or maybe it’s quieter – the kind of drive that shows up and does the work, even when the tank isn’t full.

I care about mastery and being good at what I choose to do. About clarity, depth, and not cutting corners.

Even when I’m running low, I still care – sometimes more than most.

Is that passion? Maybe not in the usual sense.

In a world that’s long glorified “follow your passion,” maybe it’s time we value commitment, depth, and consistency just as much.
