Reflections of a Lawyer: Time with Family

During her visit in KL, my mom asked another family member to call me when I was still not home past 9 pm after a work meeting.

I found it rather amusing. I’m an adult and have lived away from her for decades.

Over time, I suppose I’ve gotten used to work stretching into the evening when needed.

But she still tells me to eat when I’m in front of the computer during dinner, and to sleep when I’m working late at night.

Feels like I’ve gone back to high school.

These days, I find myself appreciating the time I have with my parents more.

Growing up, we didn’t spend much time together. They were busy making ends meet. Knowing our financial situation, I was focused on getting good academic results.

Looking back, I think we got through those years with grit.

It makes me value the time we have now.
